Classic Cheese Ball Recipe

A walnut encrusted classic cheese ball on a plate with crackers.

How to make a traditional cream cheese ball. This is a recipe you could easily make a few days ahead of your event and keep in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • ½ a cup of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • Walnuts or pecans, finely chopped (enough to coat the outside of the cheese ball)

Instructions

    1. Mix softened cream cheese and all the rest of the ingredients (except for the walnuts) until they are blended well.
    2. Spread chopped walnuts on a large plate.
    3. Shape cheese mixture into a ball and roll in the chopped walnuts.
    4. Place cheese ball in a tightly closed container and let stand in refrigerator at least 8 hours. Letting it stand longer allows the flavors to blend even more and improves the taste.
